A Casa da Praia is the house of Anabela Almeida’s grandparents in Mozambique. It was there, in the early 1970s, that the family spent their weekends, 200 kilometres from Nampula, on Chocas beach. In 2019, the family returns to Nampula and to Chocas beach. How has the passage of time altered memories, feelings, and the way that family views the events of that period? The performance revisits this personal experience, alongside the story of a people undergoing profound change. It holds onto memory — a unique memory in the first person, or in many first persons. Stories of personal and intimate upheavals, intertwined with the collective memory of a group, which later becomes the official history of a people.
