Open day to the Planet #3

New Bowing House – Centre for Planetary Relations · Odemira

We open the doors and windows of NEW BOWING HOUSE again for another edition of the "Open Day to the Planet."

We believe in the power of gathering and the transformative force of voices that come together. That's why we create a space for presence, connection, and feeling at home.

This is a day to experience with both body and mind: a day to dance, listen, taste, build, and imagine together. A joyful, relaxed, and profoundly human gathering of generations, cultures, and ways of thinking about the world.

Everyone is welcome — the curious, the restless, the shy, or the dreamers. There's always room for one more.

NEW BOWING HOUSE – Centre for Planetary Relations is a space of refuge, creation, and connection, open to all. It was created as part of the "Novo Bowing" project and is based in Odemira, in the former Student Center. It hosts artistic activities that promote intercultural dialogue and the imagination of new ways of living together.

OPEN DAY TO THE PLANET #3

29 june 2025

10:00 AM – 2:00 PM
Workshop
Planetary cooking
With cooks from around the world

Cooks from different generations — parents and children from India, Nepal, Japan, and Bangladesh — come together to share traditional dishes from their countries. Throughout the workshop, we'll learn recipes, preparation methods, and stories that cross cultures and continents. Ultimately, we'll prepare a collective brunch full of global flavours — to share and enjoy.
2:00 PM – 4:00 PM
Asian brunch for everyone
With DJ Gurpreet Singh

A celebration of flavour, music, and gathering around the table. Homemade Asian cuisine — aromatic, colourful, and made with love — served brunch-style for slow and joyful tasting. Dishes from various regions of Asia set the tone for this shared meal. Accompanied by DJ Gurpreet Singh's musical selections, guiding us through soundscapes from South Asia and beyond.
3:00 – 4:00 PM / 6:30 – 7:00 PM
Travel in images
With Jaime Salvadinho

Jaime Salvadinho is a psychologist, photographer, and musician based in Odemira. A world traveller, he shares with us, through his photography, impressions of India, Africa, and Portugal — places where cities and landscapes come alive through the diverse human stories that inhabit them.

A darkened room at CASA NOVO BOWING invites contemplation and wonder, lit by the vibrant gaze of this artist on the planet we all share.
Summer Bowing: A ping pong of questions
Summer Bowing is a summer school for Portuguese and international children and teenagers living in Odemira — many often find themselves isolated at home during this season. For two weeks, CASA NOVO BOWING becomes their meeting place: a space where they play, cook, dance, paint, write, and reinvent themselves based on their questions about the world and everything that spins and changes.

We chose a room to be inhabited with small installations, created and activated by the children and teenagers themselves, in an actual ping pong of performative questions. It all culminates at the two large tables in our kitchen, where the audience is invited to join the game — in a healthy championship of bouncing balls, paddles, and plenty of smiles.
2:00 PM – 6:00 PM
Workshop
Table experience
With Inderjeet Singh

A sonic journey through the vibrations of the tabla — a traditional Indian percussion instrument known for its expressiveness and subtlety. With a sound that evokes flowing water, the tabla is played with hands and fingers, producing rhythms that range from delicate to powerful. In this workshop led by Inderjeet Singh — an experienced musician with a deep passion for Indian musical traditions — participants will explore this ancient instrument's history and basic techniques and experience the art of rhythm through focused intent, precision, and deep listening.

No prior experience is required — just curiosity and a willingness to feel the rhythm in your hands.
2:00 PM – 7:00 PM
Henna painting
With Avneet Kaur

Led by artists with steady hands and creative spirit, this is an invitation to let yourself be adorned — on hands, feet, arms, or legs. Henna, a natural powder extracted from the bark of an ancestral plant, has been used for centuries in various cultures to decorate the body and dye hair. From the Amazon to the Middle East, North Africa to South Asia, this plant-based pigment carries a history of ritual, beauty, and celebration.

Here, it becomes ephemeral art: detailed, organic, and symbolic drawings that bloom on the skin. A sensory, peaceful, and beautiful experience — open to all ages.
4:00 PM – 5:30 PM
Music · Singing · Dance
Rosa dos Ventos

Directed by Marta Brandão

Through a performance of music and world dance,Rosa dos Ventosinvites us on a unique journey around the globe. In this vibrant celebration, diverse cultures express their contrasts with joy, generations intertwine, and we all celebrate our differences — enriching our shared existence with the magic of diversity and expanding our horizon with more colour and abundance.
5:30 PM – 6:30 PM
Tradicional Bamboo Dance of the Hills - Bangladesh

With Susana Vilar

A geometric and captivating bamboo dance from Bangladesh — performed while playing the instruments. It is a rare opportunity to explore the rich choreographic traditions of this country through a vibrant and immersive artistic experience that invites us to join the dance.
7:00 PM

New Bowing Band – Take 2

A group of musicians from different countries joined our Casa to explore a new sound for Odemira. Pedro Salvador, who leads this intercultural project, blends the sounds and traditions of each group member, composing original songs that shape a fresh and unique repertoire.

A concert in progress — now entering its second movement.
