Residencies and Creations

The year 2026 marks the opening of a new international programming cycle at EscolaNova, entitled EscolaNova - Residencies and Creations.

This is a year-long, transversal activity that alternates with the presentation of performances and the presence of the Labat’s, filling the EscolaNova space with the time and breath of research and investigation - fundamental dimensions of the artistic creation process that are often not easily accessible to artists.

Curated and led by Giacomo Scalisi, this residency programme brings together a new generation of artists working within the languages of puppet theatre and contemporary circus, in dialogue with artists experienced in the fields of dance and clowning, who are currently in the process of creation.

This programming strand unfolds through open rehearsals, presentations of research outcomes, showings of fragments of works in progress and/or moments of sharing and discussion. In parallel, the artists are invited to inhabit the village of Bordeira, drawing from its rural context and oceanic environment a privileged source of inspiration and a meaningful relationship with the territory.

EscolaNova thus opens itself to an audience interested not only in results, but also in the processes, pathways and ways of making art.
