Pedro Quintela - architect with an artistic soul, admirer of the miracle of life, the moment and the ephemeral - develops his creative process based on a holistic concept.
He firmly believes in art that is consciously developed, reflecting the unquestionable evolutionary and adaptive process that occurs so wisely in nature. Based on this premise, he creates unique works which he considers to be in perfect harmony with "THE SPIRIT OF PLACE" (a platform created for the purpose of disseminating and sharing his completed works).
The "STRAW THEATRE" is a giant ephemeral and habitable sculpture, built in the open. It reflects the essence of a way of life where creative freedom and respect for nature, which we make part of, is the artist's oxygen. Due to its peculiar and varied programme of artistic presentations, as well as the inhospitable venue located in an industrial zone, the architect's challenge was to feel beyond, inspired above all by the telluric forces of the place and also by turning the sculpture inwards, welcoming the spectators. In this sense and inspired by Nature, Mother, Cervix and Feminine, the sculpture adopted the shape of a Womb, with a complete analogy to the Sacred Process of Creation. From the divine sense to the material with sense!
The choice of straw, which exists in abundance in the region as the only building material and whose bales at this time of year are an integral part of these landscapes, is in line with all of the architect's creations, which always respect the spirit of the place. Authentic "golden bricks", borrowed by the earth for a short time, will rise in a temple of emotions, which will soon dissolve, but which will remain in everyone's memory.
