"Une partie de soi" (a part of oneself) is a vertical crossing that relates the journey of a life, showing the individual beyond the acrobat. In a circle and in proximity, in an exquisite space reduced to the man, the pole and the circle, João Paulo Santos offers us a dense and powerful choreography, composed from ritornellos and elongated time.
As if on a conveyor belt, and without ever touching the ground, the acrobat tests the Chinese pole and reveals a rarely-seen aspect of this device.
"Sit down, let yourself go, the body tells you the story of the soul. With my eyes closed, I watch myself, as if I were outside my body. From above, I feel the bubbling inside me." In this vibrant creative state that characterises his work, João Paulo Santos aims to tell the story of a life dedicated to an art that has shaped him and his place in the world. Telling the story from the inside, taking his time for detail and sincerity.
By voluntarily distancing himself from his usual register, the acrobat uses a radically different choreographic language, marked by slowness and suspension, in order to highlight the density of the movement, as well as the unique relationship he has with the Chinese pole. The audience, summoned in a circle, is invited to a discrete ceremony whose gestures, as powerful as they are humble, speak to us of time lived in common and of its trace present in us.
