UNE PARTIE DE SOI
«Une partie de soi» (a part of oneself) is a vertical crossing that recounts the journey of life and shows the individual beyond the acrobat. In a circle and in proximity, in a refined space reduced to the man, the pole and the circle, João Paulo Santos offers us a dense and powerful choreography, made of ritornellos and elongated time.
As if on a conveyor belt, without ever touching the ground, he tests his apparatus and shows the Chinese pole as it is rarely seen. Sit down, let yourself go, the body tells you the story of the soul. «With my eyes closed, I observe myself, as if I were out of my body. From up there, I feel the bubbling inside. » In this vibrant creative state that characterizes his work, João Paulo Santos wishes to tell the story of a life dedicated to an art that has shaped the flesh and the place in the world of the person who practiced it. Telling the story from the inside, taking time for details and sincerity. By voluntarily distancing himself from his usual body signature, he has a radically different choreographic language, marked by slowness and suspension, in order to highlight the density of the material of the movement, as well as that of the unique relationship that links him to the Chinese pole. Convened in a circle, the audience is invited to a discreet ceremony, whose gestures, both powerful and humble, speak to us of time lived and its traces present within us.
